HURRICANE IRMA RELIEF EFFORTS FOR THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS (@CAHFT)

Hurricane IrmaThe Caribbean Cultural Coalition seeks your help and assistance for the people who were affected in the Caribbean island nations devastated by Hurricane Irma.  These islands includes: The U.S. Virgin Islands of Saint Thomas and Saint John in a much-needed spotlight.  The French territory of Saint Martin and the Dutch territory of Sint Maarten, Tortola, Barbuda, Turks and Caicos, parts of Antigua, and now, Dominica. Our organization, located in Houston, Texas have mobilized to bring relief to the Caribbean region affected by Irma and Maria.  Caribbean Americans represent roughly 9 percent of the population of the Greater Houston Area or a little over 400,000. Let us come together as a community to assist our organization in relief efforts through the Help for the Caribbean Islands relief fund.

We are also seeking donations of such items like bottled water, adult and children’s clothing, cleaning supplies, toiletries, diapers, tarpaulins, heavy duty garbage bags, batteries, canned goods.  Fundraising for relief efforts for the Caribbean has been a challenge because here in Houston, we are recovering from Hurricane Harvey. Given the devastation of that storm, resources are limited since so many stores like yours and businesses donation of necessary supplies for those adversely displaced by the storm.  We however humbly ask you for consideration of a donation or a donations of items listed above, to benefit those in the Caribbean who lost everything during the passing of Hurricane Irma.

Our non-profit organization is uniquely positioned to assist people in the Caribbean because we have direct contacts on the ground to whom supplies can be sent to directly; further we have over eighteen (18) Caribbean Cultural organizations in the Greater Houston Area including The Houston Virgin Islands Association, all working to assist the Caribbean. National  media coverage steadily increasing, shining light on the fact that the destruction caused by Irma and Maria is far worse than anticipated. Appearing on All Inon Monday evening September 11, 2017, United States Representative Stacey Plaskett (D) United States Virgin Islands, said to host Chris Hayes: “I would like to thank you for really bringing to light what’s happening here in the Virgin Islands.  We are very concerned, although the Federal Government is doing its part, the national news is not really taking note of what’s happening in another part of the United States.”

Through Help for the Caribbean Islands, we ask you to assist us in this worthy cause.  Anything you can do to assist us in helping our citizens in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the other Caribbean islands would be greatly appreciated.
