Most people are aware that July 4th is recognized as America’s Independence Day, but it also has a significant meaning for persons from the Caribbean. See below a message from Jamaica House, outlining the importance of July 4th in the Caribbean.

Each year, July 4th is recognized as CARICOM Day. It marks the signing, on July 4, 1973, of the Treaty of Chaguaramas which created the Caribbean Community.

Member States agreed that this day should be commemorated to recall the creation of CARICOM and provide an opportunity for public education, reflection on achievements, challenges and the way forward.
