MC Lyte, Method Man & MJB Are Just Some Of The Artists That Will Be At This Year’s American Black Film Festival (@ABFF)

MC Lyte Method Man & MJBIn response to the current crisis and its disproportionate impact on communities of color, the 2020 American Black Film Festival will now be held as a virtual event. It will feature a wide range of recording artists, actors and public figures. Some of the confirmed acts include: MC Lyte, Method Man, Mary J. Blige, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and that is just to name a few.

Continuing the tradition of the live festival, the digital version will include screenings, celebrity conversations, panels and seminars centered around the business of entertainment, as well as virtual networking opportunities.

The 24th annual American Black Film Festival will take place from Friday, August 21st through Sunday, August 30th, and it will stream live via abff dot com.

Jennifer Hudson & Mary J. Blige To Star In Aretha Franklin’s Biopic “Respect” In Theaters This December

Following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, RESPECT is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.

Cast members include: Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, Tate Donovan and Mary J. Blige.

RESPECT, which is directed by Liesl Tommy, will be in theaters in December, 2020.

On Thursday, May 28th, Two One Five Entertainment, The Roots‘ production company, will host an event dubbed Questlove’s Potluck on The Food Network starting at 10:00 PM EST.

This is a one hour special that will feature several celebrity guests: Patti LaBelle, Bun B, Black Thought, Eva Longoria, George Lopez, Questlove and many more. The objective is to raise money for America’s Food Fund.

Mary J. Blige’s New Thriller Movie “Body Cam” Comes Out On May 19th (@maryjblige)

R&B artist Mary J. Blige will star in “Body Cam,” a new horror thriller film being released under the Paramount Players banner on May 19th. It was directed by Malik Vitthal and produced by Matt Kaplan.

According to SF Gate, “Body Cam” centers on several LAPD police officers who are haunted by a malevolent spirit that is tied to the murder of a black youth at the hands of two white cops, all of which are caught on a body cam video that was destroyed in a cover-up. Watch the trailer here.

Trolls World Tour, Which Features Mary J. Blige, Will Be Available On April 10th

Trolls World Tour, the 2020 American animated musical film, will be available (at home) on demand this Friday, April 10th.

The DreamWorks animation, which is a sequel to the 2016 film Trolls, has an all-star cast. The film stars: Mary J. Blige, Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, James Corden, Kunal Nayyar, Ozzy Osbourne, and Rachel Bloom.

The movie, ‘A Family Christmas Gift’, will premier on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Network on Monday, December 23rd at 1:00 PM.

Featured in the film is iconic soul artist Patti LaBelle, who is no stranger to film and television production. Her co-stars are: Dennis Haysbert, Dondré T. Whitfield and Tatyana Ali.

Jadakiss Releases Short Film to Promote His New Single “ME” (@Therealkiss)

On October 18th, Jadakiss (1/3 of the legendary hip-hop group The Lox) released a short film titled ME. The visuals show actors Peter Greene and Hassan Johnson as well as Jadakiss involved in a robbery and then an internal act of betrayal.
